How Do You Solve a Problem... Like My Daughter?

One day the song 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria' was running through my mind and I realised how much it applied to my eldest daughter, who has just turned 10. Maybe Maria had ADHD? Who knows?

She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee - and gets stuck
Her dress has got a tear - except she never wears dresses
She waltzes on her way to Mass
And whistles on the stair - everywhere actually
And underneath her wimple - she always wears a hat
She has curlers in her hair - how DID Maria fit curlers in that short bob?
I even heard her singing in the abbey - she certainly sings where she shouldn't
She's always late for chapel - late for everything
But her penitence is real  - hmmmm, maybe not
She's always late for everything - like I said...
Except for every meal - well that depends on the meal..
I hate to have to say it
But I very firmly feel
Maria's not an asset to the abbey
I'd like to say a word in her behalf
Maria... makes me...laugh - she has me in stitches frequently!
How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down? - it's like herding cats
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertigibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown! - yes, yes and yes
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her - definitely
Many a thing she ought to understand - so many things
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say - I DON'T KNOW
How do you keep a wave upon the sand?  - exactly
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand? as above
When I'm with her I'm confused - all the time
Out of focus and bemused - its why I keep losing things!
And I never know exactly where I am - or what day it is
Unpredictable as weather - she is predictable in her unpredictability
She's as flighty as a feather - she flits from one thing to the next
She's a darling! She's a demon! She's a lamb! - sometimes all in one moment!
She'd out pester any pest  - certainly
Drive a hornet from its nest - it would flee in terror!
She could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl - she is a whirling dervish
She is gentle! She is wild! - completely
She's a riddle! She's a child!  - maybe children are riddles?
She's a headache! She's an angel!  - gives me a headache, not so sure about the angel lol
She's a girl!
How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertigibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her
Many a thing she ought to understand
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?
